With all the new coming from China during the Olympic Games and the "Modern" Beijing, makes me remember when I was ther in January 1985. Vastly different, the people were still in their Mao suits, just navy blue or Kharki, only the young children with coloured clothes. I was the only person in China wearing a skirt.
Experienced a trafic jam, of bicycles, not a car in sight.
Have tried to put some of my photos on my blog, but it does not seem to want to accept the scan of my photos. No digital photos in those days.
Talk by Mike on Shinto
This was a very informative talk, well illustrated, and gave a good overview of Shinto. A brief history but did not link the Shinto religion to modern history and the Imperial family except that the clan was supposed to descend from the Gods.
Some of the questions he asked in relation to the link with Buddhism I hope I can answer in my talk next week.
I will have a hard act to follow.
